If you do the Crime

“It doesn’t matter if he was 15,” Adam Walker, the brother of Kinkel's victim Ben Walker, said in a video released at the time. “The victims don’t get second chances. Why should the offenders?” I personally agree. That being said I also disagree with Oregon legislature's ruling:   In 2019, as part of a national effort to reevaluate tough-on-crime sentences for juveniles, the Oregon Legislature passed a measure to stop automatically referring 15- to 17-year-olds to adult court for certain offenses and to ensure that they weren't sentenced to life in prison without a chance to seek parole. At the time, there were about a dozen people serving life or life-equivalent terms for crimes committed as juveniles. If you do the Crime...

Not out the Air. The "science" word

"I would like to know what in the world our governor is thinking. Where in the world she pulls an arbitrary number out of the air that's not based on science or fact," Risley said. "Our Capitol building in Salem that had 60 legislators last week has 234,000 square feet, so she's not even following her own mandates with six people max per building. Why that arbitrary number, I have no idea. "The science has shown us that outdoor activities are safer than indoor activities when it comes to the spread of COVID 19, which is why we have clearly delineated guidance between indoor and outdoor activities," said Governor Brown.

Why I don't volunteer.

The newest member of the Curry County Board of Commissioners started the job Jan. 4 and has had four meetings that ran more than 20 hours combined. I have always thought that meetings should have a time limit.  He said being a commissioner is his only job, and he plans to work full-time to help Curry County excel. Right now, that means working with Boice and Paasch and coming in every day ready to cooperate. “I love them both,” he said of his fellow commissioners. “They are both professing Christians, so that’s part of it. We don’t have to agree on everything all the time, but we do have to get along.”

Twelfth Amendment

The 12th amendment  should be interesting on January 6.  Remember Gore and Bush? The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate; The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted; The person having the greatest number of votes for President shall be the President if such number be a majority of the w...

Curry County says No More Daily Corona reports.

But the county is now at the extreme level. So much for Transparency. Between 12/11/2020 to 12/12/2020, Curry County Public Health (CCPH) received notification of 20 new cases of COVID-19; all cases have been confirmed by Curry County’s contracted Health Officer after receiving the lab results. Nine of these cases are from Sea View Assisted Living Center in Harbor which includes staff and residents. Nine cases are South County residents and two cases from North Curry County. Effective 12/15/2020, Curry County Public Health (CCPH) will no longer be reporting on positive Covid-19 cases through daily press releases. CCPH will be providing a press release to the public on positive Covid-19 cases one time per week until further notice.

Curry County Oregon Committees Remind me of Babar

Julie Schmelzer, the director of operations for Curry County, said having an official county committee could be a big step toward getting funding or other resources. She explained when the county had an ad hoc task force on housing, she filled out a grant application only to find out the county was not eligible because there was no official county committee. All of this reminds me of a movie I watched with my first granddaughter. Babar Critiques our Bureaucratic System of Committees and Experts Much Ado? I have no problem with helping the homeless but I do have a problem with having no say in who gets the money.
